Kwara Trains Women Farmers on Climate-Smart Agriculture Technology
The Kwara State Government has sensitised women farmers and small business owners across local government areas involved in the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) Project on the use of climate-smart agricultural technologies.
The workshop, held in Ilorin, focused on climate change, emerging agricultural innovations, and ways to improve farmers’ resilience, productivity, and food security. The Commissioner for Livestock Development, Oloruntoyosi Thomas, urged participants to share the knowledge gained with other women farmers in their communities.
The commissioner said women play a key role in the agricultural value chain and need to be equipped with sustainable farming practices to improve productivity and household income.
The Kwara SAPZ Project Coordinator, Busari Toyin Isiaka, said the training was designed to provide women with the skills needed to reduce post-harvest losses and promote modern, commercially viable agriculture.
A resource person from the University of Ilorin, Yusuf Sa’adat Yetunde, explained that climate change affects farming and food production, stressing the importance of adopting climate-smart methods to improve resilience and sustainability.
