NOA, CIPMN Push for Mandatory Licensing of Project Managers in Abuja Awareness Walk
The National Orientation Agency and the Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria launched a public awareness walk in Abuja on Thursday to push for mandatory licensing and professional compliance in project management.
The walk, which began at the Old Federal Secretariat and proceeded through Areas 3, 7, 8, 10, and 11 to the Federal Secretariat in the Central Business District, aimed to sensitise the public and stakeholders to the need to engage only certified and licensed professionals for public and private sector projects.
NOA’s Public Outdoor Van accompanied the procession, sharing details on registration and distributing IEC materials on professional standards, while CIPMN Council Chairman, Chief Olabode Afolayan, said the initiative was meant to promote accountability, professionalism, and effective delivery by ensuring that only licensed practitioners handle projects. Furthermore, the Registrar-General and CEO Henry Ifeanyi Mbadiwe stressed that licensing is compulsory for anyone managing or teaching project management, regardless of other certifications. He warned that practising without a valid licence attracts a two-year jail term as the agencies said the campaign will continue to strengthen ethical standards and regulatory compliance in the profession.
