NOA DG Urges Nigerians to Adopt Positive Mindset, Responsible Communication for National Growth
The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Lanre Issa-Onilu, has called on Nigerians to cultivate a positive mindset and embrace responsible communication as key drivers of national development.
Issa-Onilu made the call on Wednesday while delivering a public lecture, _“Positive Mindset and Communication for Success,”_ at the reunion of the University of Ife Muslim Graduates’ Association at Obafemi Awolowo University.
He commended UNIFEMGA for its commitment to scholarship, moral development, and nation-building, saying Nigeria’s vast human and intellectual potential can only be realized through the right attitude and constructive engagement.
“National progress depends not only on government policies but also on the mindset of citizens and the quality of conversations within society,” he said.
The NOA DG clarified that a positive mindset does not mean ignoring challenges, but responding with resilience, hope, and solution-driven thinking. He warned that negative attitudes and destructive narratives weaken development, while optimism and constructive dialogue inspire growth and innovation.
On communication, Issa-Onilu described it as a powerful tool for building trust and shaping public perception. He cautioned against misinformation, divisive narratives, and careless use of digital platforms, stressing that clarity, empathy, and purpose must guide public discourse.
He also urged young Nigerians to use their voices responsibly and see themselves as active contributors to national development, highlighting entrepreneurship, innovation, and value-driven initiatives as vital to unlocking the country’s potential.
In his remarks, Chairman of the occasion and Managing Director of Matrix Energy Group, Abdulkabir Adisa Aliu, thanked stakeholders for supporting the reunion, calling it a platform to reconnect and renew commitment to faith, excellence, and service.
UNIFEMGA used the event to announce welfare initiatives, including 140 scholarships worth N14.6 million to OAU students. The association said it has disbursed N103.4 million to 1,148 students since 2009. It also launched a N200 million endowment fund for widows and orphans of members.
The group called for stronger university-private sector collaboration to boost research and innovation, and urged the government to improve electricity, infrastructure, and human capital development to create jobs and curb youth exploitation.
The event was attended by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by his aide Bello Adeniyi, and OAU Pro-Chancellor Adejare Bello.
UNIFEMGA concluded that a positive mindset remains fundamental to building a peaceful, productive, and united Nigeria.
