NOA Trains Ambassador-Designates on National Identity, Values Charter
The National Orientation Agency has sensitised ambassador-designates on Nigeria’s National Identity Project and National Values Charter as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s global image.
Director-General Lanre Issa-Onilu, represented by David Akoji, delivered the lecture during a three-day induction programme held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria. The session focused on equipping the envoys with knowledge of Nigeria’s core values and identity framework ahead of their diplomatic postings.
The agency said the initiative is aimed at ensuring that Nigerian diplomats serve as effective representatives of the country’s image and reputation on the global stage. It emphasised the importance of aligning diplomatic engagement with national values, civic responsibility, and unity.
The sensitisation programme follows a directive approved by the Federal Executive Council mandating compulsory orientation on national identity and values for newly appointed government officials, including political office holders and legislators.
According to the agency, extending the training to ambassador-designates forms part of a broader strategy to promote a consistent and positive perception of Nigeria internationally. It added that the initiative would enhance the capacity of diplomats to project the country’s identity in line with shared national ideals.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to engaging stakeholders across various sectors to promote responsible citizenship and strengthen national cohesion.
