Royal Fathers Storm Ilorin, Visit Araba as APC Governorship Race Gains Momentum
ILORIN – A delegation of prominent traditional rulers from Kwara and Oyo States paid a courtesy visit to All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant, Engr. Femi Sanni, popularly known as Araba, at Flow FM Ilorin yesterday
The delegation was led by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owode I, and included the Olusin of Ijara Isin, Oba Ademola Julius Ajibola, and the Oloro of Oro, Oba Joel Olaniyi Oyatoye Titiloye II, alongside other chiefs.
Although details of their closed-door discussions were not disclosed, the visit comes amid rising political activities ahead of the APC governorship primaries in Kwara State.
Receiving the monarchs, Araba described the visit as “humbling and inspiring,” stressing the enduring role of traditional institutions in leadership and societal development.
“They were in Ilorin for other engagements and graciously decided to visit and pray for me,” Sanni said. “I hold them in very high regard. Their counsel, blessings, and fatherly guidance mean a lot, not just to me but to anyone privileged to receive them.”
He reaffirmed his respect for traditional rulers as custodians of culture and stabilising forces in peace and governance.
The high-profile visit has drawn attention from political observers, who note that such gestures by respected monarchs often carry symbolic weight in Kwara, where traditional institutions retain strong moral influence.
While the royal fathers did not address the press, their presence is expected to fuel speculations about widening support for Sanni’s governorship ambition as consultations intensify within the APC ahead of the party’s primaries.
