Kwara Launches Queen’s Commonwealth Writing Competition to Boost Youth Voices

Ilorin — The Queen’s Commonwealth Writing Competition has been officially launched in Kwara State in a move to promote creative writing and youth development. Organised by the Royal Commonwealth Society, the globally recognised initiative encourages young people to tackle pressing social issues through storytelling. It also seeks to strengthen critical thinking and cultural exchange across Commonwealth nations

The launch event drew broad support from stakeholders. Traditional rulers, government officials, educators, students, and members of the National Youth Service Corps were in attendance. The event was backed by Ambassador Prof. Olufolake AbdulRazaq.Mohammed Funsho Abdullahi, who represented the Minister of Youth Development, Wisdom Olawande, was also present. Speaking at the launch, Olufolake AbdulRazaq said Kwara State is committed not just to participating, but to preparing students to compete effectively. She noted that the goal is to help young writers contribute meaningfully to global conversations through their work.
