Edo Governor Orders Security on Red Alert Over Okpella Throne Dispute
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has directed all security agencies in the state to operate on red code due to potential unrest in Okpella, Estako East Local Government Area, following last week’s court ruling on the Okuokpellagbe throne.
The court had ruled that Lukman Akemokue was removed from the throne without a fair hearing, prompting supporters to consider taking action to enforce the decision.
Governor Okpebholo, through his Commissioner for Public Safety and Security, Festus Ebea, warned that any attempt to destabilize the community, engage in self-help, or disrupt the traditional institution is illegal and will be met with decisive government action.
He emphasized that the judiciary’s process must be respected, and all law-abiding residents are urged to remain calm and allow legal proceedings to run their course. Security personnel deployed in Okpella have been instructed to stay vigilant to prevent any outbreak of violence.
