Iran Assures Safe Passage for Philippine Ships Through Strait of Hormuz
The Iranian government has assured the Philippines that Philippine-flagged vessels, fuel shipments, and Filipino seafarers will be allowed safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, Manila’s foreign ministry said on Thursday.
The assurance followed a discussion between Philippine Foreign Minister Ma. Theresa Lazaro and her Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araqchi, on energy supply security and the safety of Filipino seafarers.
The Philippine foreign ministry described the talks as “productive,” reaching a positive understanding to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of critical oil and fertilizer supplies.
The Philippines relies heavily on Middle Eastern crude, with Saudi Arabia as its largest supplier, making uninterrupted passage through the Strait crucial to maintaining energy security and preventing supply disruptions.
