Kano Targets 3.2 Million Children in Polio Immunisation Campaign
The Kano State Government has announced plans to vaccinate over 3.2 million children in a statewide polio immunisation campaign scheduled for March 2026, as part of efforts to eliminate the disease. The State Immunisation Officer, Hajiya Sa’adatu Ibrahim, disclosed that the exercise will span eight days, beginning with a targeted “Days of Birth” strategy for children aged 0–15 months across 35 local government areas.
This will be followed by a four-day house-to-house vaccination drive covering children aged 0–59 months in all 44 local government areas of the state. The final two days will be dedicated to mop-up activities to ensure no eligible child is missed.
According to officials, vaccines have already been distributed across all local councils ahead of the official flag-off slated for March 28.
State Mobilisation Officer, Malam Rabi’u Ibrahim, emphasised the importance of public cooperation, urging parents and caregivers to present their children for vaccination. He warned that refusal to vaccinate could expose both individual children and communities to the risk of polio infection.
The campaign forms part of Nigeria’s broader public health efforts to eradicate polio, with stakeholders—including media professionals and community influencers—mobilised to support awareness and participation across Kano State.
