“Sinners” Leads Nominations as Oscars Unveil Main Categories for 98th Academy Awards
The nominees for the 98th Academy Awards have been announced ahead of the ceremony scheduled to be held in Hollywood on Sunday, with the vampire period horror film Sinners making history by securing a record 16 nominations.
Trailing closely is One Battle After Another, which received 13 nominations, positioning both films as early frontrunners for the prestigious awards.
Three other productions — Frankenstein, Marty Supreme, and Sentimental Value — earned nine nominations each, while Hamnet secured eight nominations, highlighting a competitive race across multiple categories.
Best Picture Nominees
The Academy announced ten films competing for the coveted Best Picture award. They include Bugonia, F1, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, Sinners, and Train Dreams.
Best Director
The nominees for Best Director are Paul Thomas Anderson for One Battle After Another, Ryan Coogler for Sinners, Josh Safdie for Marty Supreme, Joachim Trier for Sentimental Value, and Chloé Zhao for Hamnet.
Best Actor
Actors nominated for Best Actor include Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme), Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), Michael B. Jordan (Sinners), and Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent).
Best Actress
Nominees for Best Actress are Jessie Buckley (Hamnet), Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You), Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blue), Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value), and Emma Stone (Bugonia).
Best Supporting Actor
Those nominated include Benicio Del Toro (One Battle After Another), Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein), Delroy Lindo (Sinners), Sean Penn (One Battle After Another), and Stellan Skarsgård (Sentimental Value).
Best Supporting Actress
The nominees are Elle Fanning (Sentimental Value), Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (Sentimental Value), Amy Madigan (Weapons), Wunmi Mosaku (Sinners), and Teyana Taylor (One Battle After Another).
Other Categories
In the Best International Feature Film category, nominees include The Secret Agent (Brazil), It Was Just an Accident (France), Sentimental Value (Norway), Sirat (Spain), and The Voice of Hind Rajab (Tunisia).
For Best Animated Feature, the nominees are Arco, Elio, Kpop Demon Hunters, Little Amelie or the Character of Rain, and Zootopia 2.
In the Best Documentary Feature category, contenders include The Alabama Solution, Come See Me In The Good Light, Cutting Through Rocks, Mr. Nobody Against Putin, and The Perfect Neighbor.
Overall, Sinners leads the nominations with 16, followed by One Battle After Another with 13, while Frankenstein, Marty Supreme, and Sentimental Value each garnered nine nominations.
The winners will be revealed during the 98th Academy Awards ceremony in Hollywood on Sunday.
