NNPP Condemns Call for Kano Deputy Governor’s Resignation

January 30, 2026

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has condemned comments by the Kano State Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, calling on Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo to resign from office. In a statement issued by the party’s Kano State spokesman, Ibrahim Karaye, the NNPP said the constitution permits the deputy governor to remain in office, stating that there is no legal basis for the call.

The party said the commissioner’s remarks followed Gwarzo’s decision not to defect alongside Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and some aides to the APC, noting that the deputy governor was elected on the same ticket as the governor and is therefore entitled to continue in office. The NNPP urged the state executive to avoid political interference and focus on constitutional duties, adding that Gwarzo’s continued stay in office is in the interest of effective leadership in the state.
