NPFL Fines Katsina United ₦9m, Banishes Club to Jos Over Fan Violence
Katsina United have been fined ₦9 million by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) following violent incidents that marred their matchday 12 fixture against Barau FC.
The league body also ordered the temporary relocation of Katsina United’s home games to Jos as part of the disciplinary measures.
According to the NPFL, the club failed to provide adequate security and could not control its supporters during the encounter. The decision followed reports that a Katsina United supporter attacked Barau FC midfielder Nana Abraham, inflicting a deep cut on his neck shortly after the visitors scored an equaliser.
The home fans were also accused of throwing dangerous objects onto the pitch, resulting in injuries to several Barau FC players.
The NPFL directed Katsina United to pay the fine and warned that further misconduct could attract stiffer sanctions. The club has 48 hours from the date of the notice to appeal the decision.
