Tinubu Mourns Veteran Labour Activist Abiodun Aremu

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran labour activist and human rights campaigner, Comrade Abiodun Aremu, describing him as a steadfast defender of workers’ rights and social justice.
Aremu, aged 65, reportedly died on Sunday evening, October 12, 2025, after being struck by a hit-and-run driver near his residence in Ota, Ogun State. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but efforts to save him were unsuccessful.
According to funeral arrangements, he will be buried on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at his residence located at No. 30, Kabiru Fatoye Street, opposite Alaka Field, Ijako Sugar Bus Stop, along Ifo Road, off the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu extended condolences to Aremu’s family, friends, colleagues, and the labour and civil society communities.
The President praised Aremu’s lifelong commitment to empowering Nigerian workers, describing him as a teacher, organiser, and conscience of the people who shaped minds and inspired generations on integrity, justice, and patriotism.
He also commiserated with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), and other civil society groups, acknowledging Aremu as one of their most consistent partners in the struggle for a better Nigeria.
The President stated that the nation has lost a selfless patriot and a tireless fighter for the common good.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of Aremu’s soul and for strength and comfort for his family and loved ones.
