Federal Government Sets Up Committee to Investigate Kaduna Arms Factory Explosion

The Federal Government has constituted a committee to investigate the explosion at the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) in Kaduna, which left two people dead and four injured. The incident occurred during the disposal of expired explosives, including ammonium nitrate and propellants. Security analyst Kabir Adamu described the blast as concerning and noted that while there’s no sign of sabotage, safety procedures at the facility need urgent review.
He also warned against premature conclusions, urging Nigerians to await the committee’s findings. Adamu said Nigeria’s push to increase local arms production is commendable but must be paired with improved safety standards to prevent such accidents. The explosion, he added, could have been avoided with stricter disposal protocols and better infrastructure.
