Tobi Amusan Advances to 100m Hurdles Semi-Finals at 2024 Olympics
World champion Tobi Amusan has secured her place in the 100-meter hurdles semi-finals at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Competing on Wednesday, Amusan clocked a leading time of 12.49 seconds, outperforming her competitors. American Alaysha Johnson followed with a time of 12.61 seconds, while Jamaica’s Janeek Brown qualified with 12.84 seconds.
Amusan, who has consistently been a strong performer, is a top contender for the gold medal. However, she faces tough competition from athletes such as the Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton, the USA’s Alaysha Johnson, world champion Danielle Williams, and reigning Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico.
The semi-finals are scheduled for Friday, August 9, with the final set for Saturday, August 10.
The 27-year-old Nigerian has been in exceptional form leading up to the Olympics. She set a season’s best and world-leading time of 12.40 seconds at the Jamaican Athletics Invitational in May.
Earlier this year, she broke the indoor African record for the 60m hurdles twice and clinched her third consecutive African Games title in March. Additionally, she played a crucial role in securing gold in the women’s 4x100m relay at the African Championships in Cameroon.
This season, Amusan has participated in 17 events, including the 60m, 100m, 100m hurdles, and the 4x100m relay, showcasing her versatility and competitive edge.
