NOA Sensitises NCoS Personnel on Nigerian Identity Project, National Values Charter
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has conducted a comprehensive sensitisation programme for personnel and trainees of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) on the Nigerian Identity Project and the National Values Charter.
The exercise, held on Wednesday, is part of NOA’s nationwide efforts to foster patriotism, promote shared values, and enhance national consciousness across the country.
The Director-General of NOA, Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, was represented by the Director of Special Duties and Zonal Coordination, Mr. David Akoji, during sessions with participants of the 33rd Assistant Superintendent of Corrections (ASC) Basic International Course at the Correctional Staff College, Barnawa, and trainees of the Basic Recruitment Training (BRT) 241 at the Correctional Service Training School, Kaduna.
Akoji highlighted that both the Nigerian Identity Project and the National Values Charter have been approved by the Federal Executive Council and are expected to be formally unveiled by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The Nigerian Identity Project identifies seven core values representing the character of Nigerians irrespective of religion, ethnicity, or culture.
He explained that the Nigerian Promise will guide leadership conduct at all levels, while the Citizens’ Codes provide behavioural guidelines for all Nigerians, with particular emphasis on Correctional Service officers who serve as both security personnel and reformers.
At the Correctional Staff College, Commandant ACG Soliu Adepoju praised the initiative as timely and impactful, while CC Muhammad Fari at the Correctional Service Training School said it reinforces the institution’s mission to produce disciplined officers grounded in integrity and respect for human dignity.
The Controller-General of the NCoS, Sylvester Nwakuche, represented by ACC Isyaku Ibrahim, commended NOA for its national enlightenment efforts, noting that the initiative strengthens the service’s mandate of reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration.
