Nigeria Immigration Service Investigates Woman for Destroying Husband’s Passport at Lagos Airport
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has initiated a formal investigation into a viral video that shows a woman destroying her husband’s Nigerian passport at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos.
The incident, which has sparked widespread attention on social media, has prompted swift action from the Nigeria Immigration Service.
The woman, identified as Mrs. Favour Igiebor, was captured in the video tearing apart a Nigerian Standard Passport. The video has since gone viral, leading to calls for accountability.
In response to the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kenneth Udo, issued a statement on Sunday, confirming that the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service has ordered an investigation into the matter.
Mrs. Igiebor has been summoned for questioning to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The Comptroller General has directed that Mrs. Favour Igiebor be invited for further investigation,” Udo stated. “If the allegations are confirmed, her actions would constitute a violation of Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended), which carries specific penalties as outlined under Section 10(h) of the same Act.”
Udo emphasized the seriousness of the offense, noting that the destruction of a passport is a breach of the law and has significant implications for national security.
He reiterated the Nigeria Immigration Service’s commitment to enforcing the provisions of the Immigration Act and maintaining the integrity of Nigeria’s legal instruments.
“Nigeria Immigration Service remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding the provisions of the Immigration Act in the interest of national security, and to preserve the dignity and integrity of the nation’s legal instruments,” Udo added.
The investigation is ongoing, and the NIS has assured the public that it will provide updates as more information becomes available.
