Kwara Faces Gridlock as Transporters Protest High Petrol Cost

September 5, 2024

Commercial transporters in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Thursday, halted their operations to protest against the high cost of petrol affecting their businesses.

The riders, who are essential to the city’s transportation network, set up roadblocks on major roads, leading to traffic congestion and widespread disruption of daily activities.

The demonstrators voiced their frustration over the recent petrol hike, its financial burden and criticized the government for not addressing their concerns.

“We can’t continue to operate at a loss,” said one protester. “The high fuel prices are making it difficult for us to make ends meet. We’re struggling to feed our families, and the government seems not to care.”

The transporters further called for immediate action to reduce fuel prices to alleviate their economic hardships.
