Federal Government Boosts Inmate Feeding Allowance by 50% to Combat Rising Food Costs

September 5, 2024

The Federal Government has approved a 50 percent increase in the feeding allowance for inmates in Nigeria, starting from August 2024.

The increase, confirmed by the Nigeria Correctional Service, is part of a broader plan to improve living conditions for prisoners.

This adjustment marks the initial phase of a review process aimed at responding to the higher cost of food.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Correctional Service has indicated that further reviews will follow to ensure that inmate allowances continue to meet their needs as food prices fluctuate.
