Army Deploys Special Forces to Plateau Amid Rising Attacks
Jos — The Nigerian Army has deployed a special forces unit to Plateau State following a resurgence of banditry and violent attacks in parts of the state.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, approved the immediate deployment of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion, a special forces unit tasked with restoring security and countering armed groups operating in the area.
A statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Chinonso Oteh, confirmed that the troops have already arrived in Plateau State.
According to the statement, the intervention force has been mandated to “aggressively and decisively” confront criminal elements responsible for recent attacks, with the deployment expected to significantly alter the security situation.
The troops were received at the Headquarters of 3 Division, Nigerian Army, Jos, by the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, who was represented by the Chief of Staff of the operation, Brigadier General Senlong Sule.
Brigadier General Sule charged the troops to be decisive in carrying out offensive operations against bandits and other criminal groups threatening peace in the state. He also commended the proactive leadership of the COAS for providing critical combat enablers and logistics to support the mission.
Major General Oyinlola urged residents not to panic over increased troop movements or the presence of heavy military equipment, assuring the public that the deployment is aimed solely at enhancing security and protecting lives and property.
He further appealed to citizens to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and actionable intelligence that would assist military operations and contribute to lasting peace in Plateau State
