Chief of Army Staff Highlights Importance of Indigenous Language Skills in Security Operations

Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede has emphasized the strategic value of indigenous language proficiency among Nigerian Army personnel, describing it as essential for intelligence-driven operations. Speaking at the graduation of a two-month language training, he noted that effective communication with local communities enhances trust and strengthens the military’s response to security threats.
Oluyede also announced that participants will undergo annual online re-certification to maintain their proficiency, warning that failure to pass would lead to withdrawal of associated benefits. He praised the Nigerian Army Resource Centre and LACLIC Services Ltd for sustaining the training programme and building the army’s capacity for local engagement.
