Kwara State Vows Justice After Woman Lynched Over False Kidnap Allegations

Ilorin, Kwara State – The Kwara State Government has pledged to pursue justice following the brutal lynching of a woman, Khadijat, who was wrongly accused of kidnapping in Ilorin.
The incident occurred last week at Ipata Market, Oke-Apomu area, when a mob attacked Khadijat after she was falsely linked to kidnap activities. Eyewitnesses said she was found with four ATM cards, and her phone was destroyed during the assault. Despite police intervention, she was rushed to the General Hospital, Ilorin, where she later died from severe injuries.
SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, confirmed that officers attempted to rescue Khadijat but could not save her.
The Commissioner for Social Development, Hajia Mariam Nnafatima Imam, condemned the attack as “barbaric, uncivilized, and unacceptable,” warning that the government would not tolerate any form of jungle justice and urging citizens to report suspects to security agencies.
Khadijat’s family, insisting she was not involved in kidnapping but suffered from long-term health issues, appealed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice. Her younger sister, in a viral video, recounted Khadijat’s struggles with illness and poverty, emphasizing the need for accountability.
