FG Approves ₦10bn Housing Loan Scheme for Civil Servants to Boost Home Ownership
The Federal Government has approved a ₦10 billion housing loan scheme aimed at improving access to home ownership for civil servants across Nigeria.
The announcement was made on Friday in Abuja by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, during a press briefing on recent government reforms.
According to her, the scheme will be implemented through the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and the Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board. It is designed to enhance workers’ welfare, stability, and productivity by making it easier for civil servants to acquire homes.
Walson-Jack explained that secure housing would positively influence morale and efficiency in the public service, noting that home ownership gives workers a stronger sense of stability and purpose.
She described the initiative as part of a broader reform agenda focused not only on welfare but also on improving governance outcomes.
Beyond housing, she said the government is also modernising the civil service into a more digital, efficient, and transparent system, while strengthening collaboration among key government institutions such as the Budget Office and the Office of the Accountant General.
Walson-Jack added that the reforms reflect the administration’s commitment to improving the working conditions of civil servants and ensuring better service delivery to Nigerians.
She also highlighted that this year’s Workers’ Day celebration on May 1 would carry special significance, as government workers can already see tangible improvements in their welfare.
According to her, the overall goal is to ensure that civil servants are better supported, better equipped, and more motivated to serve effectively.
