Tinubu Celebrates 14-Year-Old Nigerian Winner of African Spelling Bee
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated 14-year-old Adeolu Oreofe for emerging as the winner of the 2026 African Spelling Bee in the junior category.
Oreofe, a student of St. Lawrence Metropolitan College in Ado Ekiti, defeated contestants from more than 20 African countries to win the continental title at the competition held in Harare, Zimbabwe. She also received a $5,000 educational scholarship as part of her prize.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the President praised the young Nigerian for her resilience and academic excellence, noting that her achievement reflects the importance of consistent investment in education and youth development.
Tinubu also commended her parents, teachers, and mentors for supporting her journey to success, highlighting her persistence despite previous setbacks in earlier competitions.
Oreofe had previously placed second in the 2023 MTN Spelling Bee and the 2024 Ekiti State Spelling Bee. She went on to finish fifth in the 2025 African Spelling Bee and second in the 2025 Nigeria Spelling Bee before finally clinching the continental title in 2026.
The President said her victory would inspire millions of Nigerian students to pursue academic excellence, adding that his administration remains committed to strengthening the education sector and creating opportunities for young people to compete globally.
He wished her continued success in her future academic and personal pursuits.
