Fire Destroys 10 Shops in Ibadan Market
No fewer than 10 shops were completely destroyed by fire at the Iya Maryam Adebara Complex in the Ogunpa Market area of Ibadan, Oyo State, on Monday night.
The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Mr. Moroof Akinwande, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday. He said the agency received a distress call about the incident at exactly 8:11 pm from the Baale of Ogunpa, Alhaji Nurudeen Lawal.
According to Akinwande, fire service personnel were immediately deployed to the scene and discovered that 10 shops had already been engulfed by flames on arrival. Firefighters acted swiftly to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other shops and nearby properties, with support from the Federal Fire Service.
He attributed the cause of the fire to a generator that was being refueled by one of the shop occupants at the time of the incident.
Akinwande confirmed that no casualties were recorded and commended officers of the Iyaganku Police Headquarters for providing security during the operation.
