Court to Rule on Application to Halt FCTA Workers’ Strike January 27
The National Industrial Court in Abuja has fixed Tuesday, January 27, to deliver its ruling on an application seeking to stop the ongoing strike by workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).Justice Emmanuel Subilim adjourned the matter after hearing submissions from counsel representing both parties in the suit.
The application was filed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who is asking the court to compel the striking workers to resume work while the industrial action was declared by FCTA workers over unresolved welfare concerns, including five months of unpaid salaries, accumulated promotion arrears, and poor working conditions as the request was opposed by counsel to the FCT Minister, James Onoja, SAN, who maintained that the suit was properly constituted against the existing defendants, noting that they are not registered under the Trade Union Act urging the court to grant the application for a restraining order, arguing that the strike has disrupted essential services across the Federal Capital Territory.
