NSCDC Deploys 10,000 Personnel for Osun Governorship Election
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 10,000 personnel from 10 neighbouring state commands, alongside specialised tactical units, to strengthen security ahead of the Osun State governorship election. The Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, directed personnel from Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun, Lagos, Kwara, Edo, Kogi, Delta and the Federal Capital Territory to reinforce the Osun Command, with about 1,000 officers from each command. The deployment also includes the corps’ Special Intelligence Squad, SWAT, Female Squad, Mining Marshals, Special Strike Force, Crack Squad and K9 Unit, while senior officers will relocate to the state to coordinate operations. The NSCDC said the deployment is aimed at protecting voters, electoral officials, journalists, observers and election materials, warning political thugs and others who attempt to disrupt the poll that they will face the law. The corps also urged political parties, candidates and residents to remain peaceful and cooperate with security agencies throughout the electoral process.
