Fayose Urges Rivers Governor Fubara to Reconcile with Wike Amid Political Tensions
Former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has called on Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to seek reconciliation with former Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, rather than engage in political confrontation. Speaking in an interview with ARISE NEWS on Tuesday, Fayose emphasized the importance of humility and respect for political mentorship, citing examples from other states where leaders maintained cordial relations with their predecessors.
Fayose warned Fubara against challenging Wike’s authority in Rivers politics, urging him to “climb down from his high horse” and maintain peace, especially as the Rivers State House of Assembly has commenced proceedings to impeach him over alleged misconduct, including defiance of a Supreme Court ruling, demolition of the Assembly complex, and extra-budgetary spending.
Highlighting the lessons from his own political career, Fayose advised Fubara to learn from past experiences and respect both constitutional obligations and the guidance of senior political figures. He stressed that genuine reconciliation, not superficial apologies, is necessary for political stability in the state. The political crisis in Rivers State, largely fueled by the power struggle between Wike and Fubara, has continued to create instability since late 2023, with reports suggesting that even the President has intervened to mediate the dispute.
