Ibadan Airport Cleared for Scheduled Commercial Flights by NCAA
The Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport (SLAA) in Ibadan is set to resume scheduled commercial operations following approval from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). The provisional interim operational permit issued by the NCAA marks a major step in expanding air travel and commerce in Oyo State.
The permit, confirmed in a letter dated December 16, 2025, to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), allows the airport to transition from non-scheduled (charter) flights to a fully operational hub for regular airline services. The approval followed a comprehensive review of the airport’s updated safety-critical facilities, operational arrangements, and mitigation measures.
The Oyo State Government has been instrumental in upgrading SLAA, with significant infrastructure improvements including runway expansion, enhanced safety lighting, a 500,000-litre aviation fuel storage facility, and the construction of a new protocol lounge.
The NCAA emphasized that the provisional permit is conditional on strict compliance with operational and emergency response requirements. The development is expected to enhance both domestic and international air travel options for passengers in the region.
SLAA’s elevation to scheduled operations underscores Oyo State’s commitment to strengthening its transport infrastructure and positioning Ibadan as a key aviation hub in Nigeria.
