World Marks International Human Rights Day, NOA Urges Nigerians to Uphold Core Values
On December 10, the world observes International Human Rights Day, commemorating the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948. The day provides an opportunity for individuals and organizations worldwide to unite in promoting equality, freedom, and justice for all.
Human rights are universal entitlements that every person should enjoy, regardless of race, gender, religion, background, or social status. These rights include the right to life and safety, freedom of expression and association, access to education, the ability to practice personal beliefs, and participation in decisions that affect one’s life. They form the foundation of a just and inclusive society.
This year’s theme, “Human Rights, Our Everyday Essentials,” emphasizes that these rights are vital to daily life and essential for living freely and happily, as the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on all Nigerians to continue promoting freedom, tolerance, and justice as core values that underpin a civilized and harmonious society.
