Wike-Backed PDP Faction Holds BoT Meeting, Plans Fresh Congresses
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) backed by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike on Monday held a Board of Trustees meeting in Abuja, where it announced plans to conduct fresh congresses in some states amid the party’s leadership crisis.
The BoT chairman, Mao Ohuabunwa, said the PDP had endured recent internal disputes and legal battles by remaining committed to constitutional order and due process, while commending a Federal High Court judgment in Ibadan that nullified a rival faction’s November 15 national convention. He urged party leaders to avoid actions that could undermine democratic institutions, as caretaker committee chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed disclosed that a timetable for congresses would soon be released to pave the way for a smooth national convention, with the PDP currently split between the Wike-backed group and another faction led by Kabiru Turaki and supported by Governors Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed.
