US Government Raises Fresh Concerns Over Nigeria’s Fiscal Transparency

In its 2026 Fiscal Transparency Report, the US Department of State said Nigeria’s budget documents failed to give a complete picture of public finances and did not adequately break down spending by executive offices. It also pointed to discrepancies between Nigeria’s approved budget and actual implementation, raising questions about how closely government spending follows the figures presented in the budget.
