US Congressman Riley Moore Calls for Decentralised Nigerian Police to Tackle Insecurity
United States Congressman Riley Moore has renewed calls for the decentralisation of Nigeria’s police force, urging state governments to assume greater responsibility for local security.
In a post on X yesterday, Moore stressed the need for urgent action from the Federal Government to protect citizens, particularly in the Middle Belt, which has experienced persistent attacks from Islamic extremists.
Moore, known for his focus on Christian persecution and the rise of extremism in Nigeria, has actively engaged in investigations, legislative proposals, and oversight aimed at holding the Nigerian government accountable for security failures.
Earlier this year, he led a bipartisan congressional delegation to Nigeria, meeting with victims of violence, religious leaders, and senior government officials to assess the security situation firsthand.
The Congressman also pushed for Nigeria to be reinstated as a Country of Particular Concern due to alleged widespread persecution of Christians—a designation previously made by former President Donald Trump on October 31, 2025.
Moore’s intervention highlights growing international attention on Nigeria’s security challenges and the debate over federal versus state policing powers in addressing violent extremism.
