Tuchel Extends England Contract Until Euro 2028
Thomas Tuchel has signed a contract extension that will keep him as head coach of the England national team until the end of Euro 2028, the Football Association (FA) announced on Thursday.
The 52-year-old German tactician, who succeeded Gareth Southgate in October 2024, had initially agreed to a deal running through the 2026 World Cup. His new contract now secures his future with the Three Lions for an additional two years, covering the European Championship to be hosted by the UK and Ireland in 2028.
Tuchel has enjoyed an impressive start to his tenure, guiding England through an unbeaten qualification campaign for this year’s World Cup in North America, winning all eight of their group matches.
“I am very happy and proud to extend my time with England,” Tuchel said. “It is no secret that I have loved every minute of working with my players and coaches, and I cannot wait to lead them to the World Cup.
“It is an incredible opportunity and we are going to do our very best to make the country proud.”
The FA said the new agreement provides clarity and ensures full focus on the upcoming World Cup campaign.
Tuchel had previously been linked with a potential return to club football, including speculation over a move to Manchester United following the departure of Ruben Amorim. However, by committing his future to England beyond the 2026 World Cup, Tuchel has effectively ruled out a post-tournament switch to Old Trafford.
With the extension, the former Chelsea boss will now aim to build on England’s strong form and lead the team through both the 2026 World Cup and Euro 2028 on home soil.
