Trump Announces $1 Billion Lawsuit Against Harvard University
US President Donald Trump has announced plans to sue Harvard University for $1 billion in damages, signaling a new chapter in his ongoing legal dispute with the Ivy League institution. The announcement was made via his Truth Social account on Monday, though he did not specify the exact basis for the claim. The move follows a long-running feud, including a federal judge’s September 2025 ruling that the Trump administration unlawfully canceled over $2.2 billion in research grants to Harvard.
Trump has previously criticized the university for promoting what he describes as “woke, socialist, and anti-American” ideologies, particularly targeting diversity programs, pro-Palestine activism, and DEI initiatives. The president’s post emphasized that Harvard “will have to live with the consequences of their wrongdoings” and stated his desire to sever ties with the university “into the future.”
The legal battle has seen Harvard resist the administration’s demands while a Department of Justice task force scrutinizes alleged anti-Semitic harassment on campuses. Several universities have made concessions to restore federal funding, but Harvard has remained at the center of Trump’s campaign against elite US universities.
