Trending Video of President Tinubu Begging Nigerians is Old, Claims Presidency
Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, has clarified that a circulating video of the president appealing to Nigerians for patience is not current.
The video, which was shared by the State House on X.com (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, was portrayed as new by PUNCH Online.
It was posted on the official X and Instagram handles of both President Tinubu and the Presidency on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 3:29 pm and 3:30 pm, respectively.
In the video, President Tinubu urges Nigerians to be patient with his administration, assuring them of a transition from darkness to dawn. He acknowledged the ongoing hardships caused by the removal of the fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira.
Tinubu emphasized that the pain experienced by Nigerians was exacerbated by an “avoidable lag” between the subsidy removal and the implementation of his helpful plans for the country.
However, Onanuga took to his official X handle on Wednesday night to assert that the video in question is from a previous broadcast made by President Tinubu in 2023. He stated that the president has not made any public statement since his last broadcast on Sunday.
Onanuga’s post read: “A trending video of President Tinubu which came out on Wednesday is not a new video. It’s a clip from the broadcast he made last year. President Tinubu has not made any other public statement since his last broadcast on Sunday.”
This clarification aims to correct the narrative and ensure that the public is informed about the timeline of President Tinubu’s communications.
