Transfer: Chelsea Finally Announce £52m Lacroix Signing
July 30, 2026LONDON — Chelsea have completed the signing of Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix in a deal worth £52 million. The French centre-back has signed a six-year contract with the Premier League club, keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2032. The move keeps him in London after two seasons with Palace.
Lacroix, 25, arrives with a growing reputation as one of Europe’s dominant central defenders, known for his pace, aerial ability and commanding presence. He made 98 appearances for Crystal Palace and was part of the squad that enjoyed one of the club’s most successful periods, winning the UEFA Conference League, FA Cup and Community Shield. The defender was also part of the France squad that reached the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup. He said he is happy to join Chelsea and spoke about aligning with the club’s ambitions under new head coach Xabi Alonso. Lacroix stated that the goal is to win trophies and that he is looking forward to contributing to the team. Chelsea have been active in the transfer market this summer as Alonso looks to strengthen the squad ahead of the new season.
