Tiwa Savage Reveals Olamide Gave Free Verse After Rejecting ₦100m Fee

July 3, 2024

Famous singer Tiwa Savage recently shared a heartwarming story about her encounter with fellow artist and rapper Olamide.

According to Savage, Olamide’s management initially demanded ₦100 million for a verse on her song. However, Olamide himself declined the fee, choosing instead to offer the verse for free.

Savage, known for hits like “Stamina,” explained that Olamide’s decision was influenced by their sibling-like relationship and his understanding of the challenges faced by female artists in the music industry.

The 44-year-old singer expressed her gratitude, emphasizing that good people like Olamide still exist in the industry.

“I was talking to his management; I didn’t want to talk to him directly because he would want to do it for free. Spoke to his team and they charged ₦100 million. I was willing to pay. When Olamide asked them who the artist was, they said me, and he just said NO. He wouldn’t take it. He said I am his sister and he knows how difficult it is to make it in the industry as a woman. That’s how he denied, and guess what? He gave me the verse for free. Good people exist, and Baddo is one,” Savage revealed.

In the same vein, Tiwa Savage reminisced about the early days of her career, when her “sexy” style drew harsh criticism. In a recent interview with Kiss FM, UK, she mentioned that her “risky” lyrics and provocative outfits often led to criticism and song bans. Savage’s experience has fueled her admiration for younger artists like Ayra Starr, who face similar challenges.

Additionally, in an interview with BET Talks, Savage discussed the difficulties she encountered in the Nigerian music industry due to her provocative style.

She recounted instances of being turned away from performances and denied soundchecks because of her attire. Despite these challenges, Savage remained defiant, choosing to push boundaries with even more daring outfits.

“They get overlooked, and they can’t do soundchecks. Initially, when I first moved back, I would turn up for a show, and they would say I couldn’t perform because of my outfit. I am very stubborn. So I was like, my dress is just going to get shorter, and my shirt is going to get more revealing,” Savage stated.

Tiwa Savage’s story highlights the persistent challenges female artists face in the music industry and the importance of support and solidarity among artists. Her gratitude towards Olamide underscores the significance of such gestures in navigating a challenging industry.
