Tinubu Reaffirms Nigeria’s Leadership Role at TICAD9 Summit in Japan

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to leading Africa’s development agenda as he joined world leaders at the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama, Japan. The summit, which runs from August 20 to 22, is focused on strengthening Africa–Japan relations, attracting sustainable investments, and fostering innovation to drive the continent’s future.
Established in 1993, TICAD serves as a platform for African nations, Japan, international organisations, and development partners to collaborate on strategies for sustainable growth. The Yokohama edition is spotlighting Africa’s role in global economic recovery, with emphasis on innovation-driven solutions, infrastructure development, and enhanced trade partnerships.
Tinubu’s participation underscores Nigeria’s push to assert its leadership in Africa’s economic diplomacy while advancing investment opportunities and innovation under his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The conference is expected to yield fresh commitments towards leveraging digital technologies, boosting infrastructure, and deepening regional integration to accelerate Africa’s transformation.
