Tinubu Directs FEC Committee to Crash Food Prices

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered a Federal Executive Council (FEC) committee to urgently work on reducing food prices across the country. The directive was disclosed in Abuja by the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, during a capacity-building workshop for members of the Senate Press Corps.
According to the minister, the committee will promote safe passage of agricultural produce and commodities along major routes to cut transportation costs, which have significantly contributed to rising food prices. He noted that the move aligns with the President’s vision of achieving food sovereignty and sufficiency.
The plan is anchored on ensuring food availability, accessibility, affordability, and nutritional adequacy on a sustainable basis.
Abdullahi further revealed that the government is finalising key initiatives to support farmers and strengthen the agricultural sector. These include the Farmer Soil Health Scheme, which is set for launch, and a cooperative reform programme designed to enhance resource mobilisation, boost economic activities, and improve livelihoods.
Other speakers at the workshop, themed “Parliamentary Reporting: Issues, Challenges and Responsibilities,” included the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu; Senator Ita Enang; and the Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, who was represented.
