Stay-at-Home: Soludo Warns Pupils, Students of One-Week Suspension
The Anambra State Government has warned that pupils and students who fail to attend school on Mondays risk a one-week suspension.
The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, issued the warning while addressing the management of Mount Olive Schools and Spring Field Academy in GRA, Onitsha. She said the directive followed instructions from Governor Chukwuma Soludo on compulsory school attendance on Mondays.
According to the commissioner, the affected schools were invited to explain their alleged non-compliance with the governor’s directive. While Mount Olive Schools reported improved attendance, Spring Field Academy attributed low turnout to parents’ reluctance to send their children to school on Mondays. Both schools pledged to intensify efforts to ensure full compliance.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education, through its Examination Development Center, has conducted the 2026 Transition Placement Examination across the state.
Chuma-Udeh, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Mrs. Ifeoma Agbaizu, monitored the exercise at several centres, including Nnamdi Azikiwe University Demonstration School, Igwebeze Primary School, Ifite Awka, and Igwebike Grammar School, Awka. The examination was reported to have concluded without any major challenges.
