Spotify Unveils Nigeria’s Top Global Impact List: Tems, Davido, Asake Shine
Spotify has released its much-anticipated Global Impact List for Nigeria, showcasing the tracks that have resonated most globally in the first half of 2024.
The list highlights the influence of Nigerian music beyond borders, celebrating artists who have made significant strides on the global stage.
Topping the charts are female artists Ayra Starr and Tems, whose recent albums have captivated international audiences. Their tracks have dominated global playlists, reflecting a growing appreciation for Nigerian music worldwide.
In a nod to collaboration, the Global Impact List features eight of the top ten tracks that include international artists, underscoring the cross-cultural appeal of Nigerian music.
Notable collaborations include Pheelz with Usher, and Burna Boy with 21 Savage and Metro Boomin, showcasing the genre’s ability to transcend geographical boundaries.
Commenting on the impact of Nigerian music, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, Phiona Okumu, emphasized the rising influence of Afrobeats globally.
She noted, “Nigerian artists continue to redefine global music trends, blending local sounds with international flavors to create tracks that resonate across continents.”
While the list celebrates the success of artists like Tems, Davido, and Asake, notable absences include Wizkid and Odumodublvck, indicating a shift in global listener preferences over the past six months.
