Sports Minister Visits Benin City to Boost Athletes at National Olympic Trials
The Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, has made a notable visit to Benin City to rally support for athletes participating in the All Nigeria Athletics Championships, which serve as the 2024 National Trials.
This visit underscores the significance of the event in preparing Nigeria’s top athletes for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.
Senator Enoh, while in Benin City, expressed his admiration for the commitment and outstanding performances displayed by the athletes during the trials.
Many athletes have not only achieved personal bests but have also secured qualifications for the prestigious Olympic Games.
“Our track and field athletes have shown remarkable dedication by participating in the National trials, and this is highly commendable,” Senator Enoh remarked. “Several athletes have earned their spots for the Olympics and have surpassed their personal records.”
Highlighting the global potential of Nigerian athletes in track and field, Senator Enoh reiterated the government’s commitment to providing unwavering support.
“This Olympic year holds immense promise for our nation in athletics,” he stated. “We commend the leadership of the AFN, the coaches, and our exceptional athletes who continue to break barriers and emerge victorious. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration stands firmly behind you.”
The Minister’s presence in Benin City not only emphasizes the importance of the National trials but also underscores the government’s efforts to create an enabling environment for Nigerian athletes as they gear up to compete internationally.
The 2024 Olympic Games are scheduled to be held in Paris from Friday, July 26, 2024, to Sunday, August 11, 2024.
