Sodje Criticizes Finidi George’s Super Eagles Leadership Amid World Cup Qualifier
Former international footballer Sam Sodje has voiced his criticism of Finidi George’s leadership of the Super Eagles, citing the team’s poor performance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.
Despite holding South Africa to a 1-1 draw and losing 2-1 away to Benin Republic, the Super Eagles find themselves in fifth place on the Group C table with only three points from four games. This string of disappointing results has led to increasing calls for Finidi’s dismissal.
While, Sodje expressed his concerns about the team’s trajectory under Finidi’s management has he questioned the Nigerian Football Federation’s (NFF) response to the situation, urging them to consider the team’s objective of qualifying for the World Cup.
Furthermore, Sodje argued that if the current trend continues, Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the tournament would be jeopardized, necessitating decisive action. He suggested that while sacking Finidi might not be the ideal solution, it could be necessary to ensure the team’s success in the qualifiers and ultimately, their presence in the World Cup
