Shettima Condemns Borno Attack, Assures Justice for Victims

Vice President Kashim Shettima has condemned the recent Boko Haram attack on the Darajamal community in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, pledging that justice will be served for the victims.
Shettima, in a statement released by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, on Monday, expressed condolences to Governor Babagana Zulum, the people of Borno, and the Nigerian military over the killings. He described the incident as a national tragedy and assured families of the deceased that the Federal Government shares in their grief.
At least 63 people, including five soldiers, were reportedly killed when insurgents stormed the community late Friday night, shooting residents, torching houses, shops, and vehicles. Survivors said the attackers operated for several hours before security reinforcements arrived.
Shettima reiterated that President Bola Tinubu has directed the armed forces to review ongoing security operations and intensify strategies, including the deployment of additional drones and surveillance equipment. He also highlighted the federal government’s consideration of state police, stressing the need for specialised security units that understand local terrain and culture.
“These deaths have left the entire nation in collective grief, but we are confident that justice will be served for the bereaved families,” Shettima said.
He assured the Borno State government of continued federal support and offered prayers for the victims.
The attack marks another setback for Darajamal, a community that was only recently resettled after years of displacement due to insurgency.
