Senegal University Student Dies After Protest Clashes With Police
Dakar, Senegal — A student has died following clashes between police and students protesting delays in stipend payments at a Senegalese university, the government confirmed on Tuesday.
The unrest occurred on Monday at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, the country’s capital. A second-year medical student, Abdoulaye Ba, reportedly lost his life during the confrontation, a government spokeswoman said.
Student protests over unpaid stipends have erupted sporadically across several universities in Senegal in recent months, highlighting ongoing frustrations over delayed financial support for students.
The government has called for calm and urged both students and authorities to resolve disputes peacefully while addressing the concerns raised by students regarding stipend payments.
