Senate Calls for Mandatory Anti-Venom in Nigerian Hospitals
The Nigerian Senate has called on all levels of government to ensure hospitals nationwide, especially in snake-prone and high-risk areas, maintain minimum stocks of anti-venom and other essential antidotes following the death of Ifunanya Nwangene, who reportedly died after a hospital lacked anti-venom.
The Senate resolved that compliance with emergency medical stock requirements should be linked to hospital licensing, prioritizing states with high incidences of snakebites and addressing the disproportionate impact on rural communities, while the Assembly observed a minute of silence in honor of the deceased.
