Robert Aramayo Wins Shock Best Actor at 2026 BAFTA Awards
British actor Robert Aramayo claimed a shock victory at the 2026 BAFTA Film Awards, winning Best Actor for his performance in the biopic I Swear, beating Hollywood heavyweights including Leonardo DiCaprio, Timothée Chalamet, and Michael B. Jordan. The 33-year-old also received the EE Rising Star award in recognition of his breakthrough role.
One Battle After Another was named Best Picture, with Paul Thomas Anderson awarded Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. Jessie Buckley won Best Actress for Hamnet, which also received the Best British Film award. In the supporting categories, Sean Penn won Best Supporting Actor while Wunmi Mosaku took Best Supporting Actress for her role in Sinners. The film Sinners’ writer and director, Ryan Coogler, made history as the first Black winner of the BAFTA for Best Original Screenplay.
The ceremony, hosted by Alan Cumming, was disrupted by John Davidson, a Tourette’s Syndrome campaigner whose life inspired I Swear. Cumming explained that Davidson’s involuntary outbursts caused brief disturbances during the event.
Meanwhile, Marty Supreme, despite 11 nominations, did not win any awards, tying it with previous films for the record of most-nominated titles to leave empty-handed at the BAFTAs.
