Rivers State Sets October 5 for Local Government Elections
The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has scheduled the local government chairmanship and councillorship elections for all 23 local government councils in the state to take place on October 5, 2024.
Justice Adolphus Enebeli (Rtd), the RSIEC chairman, made this announcement on Monday during a stakeholders meeting held at the commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The meeting was attended by representatives from political parties, civil society organizations (CSOs), media, and security agencies.
Meanwhile, following the expiration of the tenure of the elected chairmen and councilors on June 17, 2024, Governor Siminalayi Fubara had appointed caretaker committees to oversee the 23 LGAs.
