Rivers State Governor Orders Audit of Local Government Accounts
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has directed the state’s Auditor General to conduct a thorough audit of the accounts of all 23 Local Government Areas over the past three years.
Meanwhile, He issued this directive during the swearing-in ceremony of the Caretaker Committee Chairmen at the Government House in Port Harcourt while emphasizing that the audit aims to enhance accountability among the incoming chairmen.
Moreover, while he was addressing the newly sworn-in caretaker chairmen, Governor Fubara urged them to prioritize the welfare of their constituents and avoid assuming undue prominence and reminded them of the temporary nature of their tenure, noting that preparations for local government elections would soon commence.
Additionally, the governor ordered an investigation into the outgoing chairmen’s tenures, highlighting the state’s commitment to democratic principles.
